Quilt Show XI held on March 28--29, 2009

Our most recent biennial quilt show was held March 28--29, 2009, at the East Rivanna Fire Station at Glenmore, just east of Charlottesville, VA. Pam Desmond and Mona Houle co-chaired the show, which we all agree was a resounding success. We had over 160 quilts displayed and over 500 attendees, making this event a wonderful opportunity to share our craft with the larger community and to raise funds to support our guild. Many thanks to all of the members who worked so hard to make this show a success. And a special thank you goes out to the husbands who lent their skills to the quilt show setup and takedown.

Our show also included a silent auction of quilted items made by guild members, a merchants' mall, a raffle quilt, the results of a challenge contest, and viewers' choice awards in five categories. The show featured a special commemorative exhibit of the quilts made by founding member Martha Townes Grattan of Earlysville, who passed away recently.

2009 Challenge Quilt

Guild Challenge: Stars, Stars, Stars

Each quilt show year, the guild issues a challenge to its members. This year's challenge quilts featured stars---any small quilt with stars in the design and stars in the name.

Chapter Group Quilts

In the two years since our last show, several chapters have sponsered block exchange groups. In these groups, each member specifies the design of the block, colors, size of block, etc. and the other members make a block to her specifications.

2009 Raffle Quilt

The raffle quilt for our 2009 show was entitled Asian Fantasy.
Over 2300 tickets were sold; a significant portion of the proceeds from this raffle was donated to the Charlottesville Free Clinic. Alice Hastings of the Nelson County Chapter designed the quilt and coordinated the project.
